During the early 1880s the Lee family sought to consolidate their holdings on the corner lot of Bradley and Grafton Street, then the location of their prominent building and lumber yard. In 1882, Contemporary newspaper reports in praising the architecture of the new construction made note of the fact that the design was that of Thomas Lee's son John James Lee, an architect and builder. Lee had a brief architectural career, cut short by his early death from typhoid in 1887. Whilst it cannot be confirmed without further documentation, the design similarities and the familial connection make it highly likely that the "Leeville" Terrace was also designed by John James Lee.
